1. SLOVAKIA HAS THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF CASTLES AND CHATEAUX PER CAPITA.
Slovakia has 180 castles, and 425 châteaux spanning across the country for a population of just 5,465,654 people, making it the country with the highest number of castles and châteaux per capita. The most popular are the Devin castle, the Bojnice castle, and the Orava castle. The Spis castle, which is one of the largest castles in Europe, is a highlight of Slovak castles. Built in the 12th century, the castle is included UNESCO Heritage site lists.




2. THE COUNTRY HAS OVER 6000 CAVES.
The mountainous country of Slovakia is home to about 6,200 caves. These caves are an underground paradise. Each cave has it’s own unique feature, for example, the Ochtinska Aragonite Cave is the only one aragonite cave located in Europe, and the Krasnohorska holds the Guinness Record for having the biggest Stalagmites in the world which is 32.6 meters high.

6. HOME TO THE HIGHEST WOODEN ALTAR IN THE WORLD.
The medieval town of Levoca is the proud home of the highest wooden altar in the world. This eccentric piece of art was created by master Paul in 1517. The altar measures 18.62 meters in height, and it’s 6 m wide. What’s even more surprising is that the entire altar was built without the use of a single nail! It is located in St. James church in the center of Levoca. The entire town center is a UNESCO Heritage site.

Slovakia, though small, is a very diverse country. In Slovakia, there are 11 323 known plant species and 25 351 known animal species; among them, 1 432 plant and 722 animal species are protected in Slovakia. I haven’t traveled to very many but I love history, and in Cozumel Mexico I got to spend some time with Mayan ruins and it was wonderful. Someday, I’d like to go to other parts of the world. There is so much to explore.
