Some of us do love a good horror movie. Probably, horror movies are the best kind of movies for you. What about a creepy and horrific tourist destination. If you are a fan of horror movies, you might have watched the movie ‘Annabel’, but do you know that there is an island with real life ‘Annabels’? I present to you Isla de las muñecas or island of dolls.

Where is Isla de Muñecas?
The island of dolls is a chinampa of the Laguna de Teshuila and one of the main attractions of the channels, located in the channels of Xochimilco, south of the center of Mexico City, very close to the Estadio Asteca football stadium. It is dedicated to a poor girl who drowned in the waters of the island. It is said that the dolls are possessed by the late girl’s spirit. The dolls are terrifying even in the day time. Most of the dolls are beheaded with severed limbs and blank eyes . This island decorated with over 1500 dolls, was never meant to be a tourist attraction.
Many visitors to the island claim that the island is haunted. Local legend says that the dolls do move their heads and arms and sometimes, they even open their eyes. Though some of these stories are exaggerated, one thing is a fact_the island of dolls is a very creepy place.
I know that at this point, you must be wondering how the dolls came to be on this island.

Meet Don Julian Santana Barrera, the man who used to be the care taker of this island. The story goes that Julian found a girl drowning under mysterious circumstances and was unable to save the girl.
Not long after the incident, Julian found a doll floating near the canals. This doll, most probably belonged to the late girl. Julian picked up the doll and hung it on a tree to show respect to the dead girl’s spirit.
Presumably, Julian was haunted by the girl’s spirit and he started hanging more dolls in a bid to appease her spirit. This drove Julian into a state of madness and he spent the next 50 years of his life hanging dolls on trees in this island. Julian was found dead drowned in the same spot as the girl did.
What do you think? Do you think the island of dolls is haunted?
